MIOT International, Chennai India Introduces Mental Wellness Services

09th Jul 2024

MIOT International recently hosted a mental wellness camp in Seychelles to follow up with individuals who had reached out to the hospital during the previous visit. Led by Dr. Kurinjinathan, Head of the Department of Mental Well-Being at MIOT International, the camp focused on autism, addiction, and ADHD, attracting over 50 participants who have since begun their treatments. The positive response from the Seychellois community highlights the importance of follow-up care in mental health.

“After the pandemic, the stigma around mental health has reduced, and people are seeking help. This camp focused on autism, addiction, and ADHD in Seychelles. The department of Mental Well-Being aims to address the mental health concerns of Seychellois once again, including follow-up sessions for previous attendees” said Dr. Kurinjinathan. Adding to it he said he will be visiting Seychelles every three months to provide on-going mental healthcare consultations and necessary follow-up care.

Additionally, individuals will be able to access follow-ups using MIOT’s Next-Gen Telemedicine facility. This initiative enhances accessibility and continuity of mental health support, emphasizing comprehensive care and innovative healthcare solutions.

During this visit, Dr. Kurinjinathan observed that most patients presented with anxiety issues. He says “The children I saw have ADHD and autism. As children grow, their needs change. An autistic child faces new challenges as they age, and our experts help them navigate these challenges to improve their quality of life. Follow-up visits are crucial to monitor progress, improve treatment plans, and ensure the child receives the most effective combination of therapies tailored to their specific needs.”

Patients with ADHD experience different symptoms over time. MIOT’s experts will conduct regular follow-ups to provide consistent support. These visits allow mental wellness professionals to offer better support, education, and guidance to families, fostering a cohesive support system.

Dr. Kurinjinathan also noted the need for further exploration in addiction care. “Addiction has a high relapse rate, making regular follow-up crucial to ensure the best chances of overcoming it completely.”

Addiction affects both adults through substance use, alcohol, and gaming, and children primarily through gaming addiction. Consistent adherence to treatment helps maintain neurological and behavioral changes, supports long-term recovery, and promotes holistic wellness.

“Mental health is vital because, without it, an individual cannot function or enjoy life. It is essential to prioritize mental health as much as physical health,” stated Dr. Kurinjinathan.
